If you’ve made up your mind that you’d like to spend the rest of your life with your partner, the next thing that will probably be running through your mind is how you’re going to ask them to marry you!
You want the moment you propose to be memorable, personal, and of course, impossible to turn down, so getting it just right feels like an awful lot of pressure. If you’re looking for ideas that haven’t been done a million times over, then worry not, we’ve got you covered.
We spoke to H Hogarth, a jewellers who have been established since 1879 and seen their fair share of engagements, to see if they had any particularly unique ideas to share with us. Read on for our top five!
At the zoo
This one may sound a little bit random, but hear us out! When a male Penguin in the wild falls in love with a female partner, he presents her with a pebble. If the female accepts his pebble, then they use it to start building a nest together, and their lives together begin. Not so dissimilar to a human engagement!
If your loved one is an animal lover, presenting her with a pebble with ‘will you marry me’ written on it next to the penguin enclosure is a super cute way to propose. Make sure you have the ring to hand for when she says yes!
With a kite
A cute idea for a twist on the popular picnic themed proposal is to write your proposal on a kite! You can then take your loved one for a picnic, to the beach, or anywhere else that is suitable for flying a kite and then watch their look of surprise once it’s airborne as you get down on one knee.
Use art to propose
One amazingly personal and unique idea for proposing is to commision some artwork (or do it yourself if you are creative) of you proposing to your partner and give it to them.
If you have planned your proposal spot, you could have your proposal illustrated ready to hand over when you get there. Be sure to get on one knee to recreate the moment while your loved one is looking at it!
A great way to pull of a more intimate proposal while still sharing your love with the world is by writing it in the sky! It’s also a really cool and unique idea, and definitely something your partner will remember for the rest of your lives.
Alternatively, you could get a plane to fly over your chosen spot with a banner with your proposal message written on it. If your partner is a fan of big displays of affection, you could even fly it over your hometown!
A scavenger hunt
Okay so this one has definitely been done hundreds of times, but the great thing about a scavenger hunt proposal is that it is completely customised to your own personal relationship.
Revisiting the spots where you first met, first kissed, or any other significant moments in your time together is a great way to build emotion before you ask the big question, and we love this idea! There’s plenty of room for you to be as creative and unique as you like.
We hope that this has given you some inspiration if you’ve been struggling to think of the perfect way to pop the question! If you’re still stumped, we found this list of 65 different ideas that should keep you reading for some time!
